Update 5/18 4 PM

Mindy's condition was poor to say the least this morning. The fire hose dose of Mag Sulfate put her on the brink of one of the worst days of her life and at the time, however, the job was being done - reduce or eliminate those contractions.

Around 11 AM it was decided to d/c the Mag Sulfate for a while and immediately her color and spirits returned, especially the facial flushing. Her body would feel cold, and we covered her with blankets, but her face, flanked by two ice packs int he picture was always very hot. It was decided the cerclage would be appropriate and that she would need to get into surgery sometime in the next two days. That surgery spot came about an hour later at noon as Baby A tried to get out.

Under spinal analgesia Mindy underwent a stitching of her cervix to get it back to 2 cm from what was .7 cm and our next cross your fingers moment will be an ultrasound tomorrow morning when the technician determines if the cervix remains at that level. Clindamycin is used around the cervix and she may start to have some bleeding with the procedure.

Mindy will be on Mag Sulfate and other meds until tomorrow and we are not sure when they will d/c those. The risk of a cervical tear, should the contractions come, is one reason the Mag Sulfate needs to be continued, but now ordered at 2 gm, a lower, hopefully manageable dose.

She said she will use tomorrow (while I am working 9 am to 9 pm in Indianola) to update everyone herself, try to return phone calls and get back in touch with everyone)

Thanks again for all of your prayers and well wishes, we've made it through a step and still have a while to go yet.

Our pastor, Pastor Scott Raines from Lutheran Church of Hope Northbranch stopped by and I just wanted to acknowledge how much we appreciate that.

Hopefully Mindy will be able to tell you from her own perspective how she feels and what is going on as we move forward. We will be in touch when we get the ultrasound results and certainly hope she'll be home to be on full bed rest soon.

  2. Hi Mindy and Tony-

This is Missy, the triplet mom from Hope that Mindy has been emailing back and forth with. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you guys in this uncertain time. I feel for Mindy because I too had to be on Mag Sulfate and it is awful stuff. I just got done writing a blog about how much I hate that stuff actually! We are so excited that you are having three girls as well! Let us know if you need any clothes, gear, or anything of three in pink!
