Dr's Report, Mag Sulfate and Mindy's first tinkle into a bed pan.

We're hoping the Mag Sulfate will do this to the girls and the contractions for about . . . 9 to 16 weeks.

Dr's Report

Yesterday when Mindy was having no contractions and the pressure was reducing the cervical size the clear choice was cerclage, now, however, she has been having contractions since early this morning and the doctor came in and ordered Magnesium Sulfate 4 mg bolus over 30 minutes then 2 mg each hour for the day. Mindy is on clear liquids for the day but will probably not be having surgery today. The surgery will cause contractions so doing it in someone who already has contractions is a poor choice and right now it's a scary balancing act between doing medical procedures, like infusing Mag Sulfate and surgical procedures like the cerclage.

The goal now is to get to 28 weeks with this new development and that is a scary revelation, we know the difference between the viability time frame which is 24 weeks or 5 weeks away, 28 is when they do well and 35 obviously would have been ideal. It's just a very tough go right now as Mindy's feeling the heat and flushing of the Mag Sulfate and certainly the situation. We appreciate all of your well wishes and prayers as things have turned a bit South right now and we're just trying to get through it so they babies can meet us. They are right now healthy, but darn if Mindy's just a little short for this many babies and there is just not a lot of room in there. Both of us are runners so it makes sense they would try to kick their way out, however, I've talked to the girls and told them that it's time for a siesta and to stop these contractions.

Dr. is trying to shut down her uterus and so Mindy can't get up to go to the bathroom except for BM. So now Mindy had to use a bed pan for the first time and ... might have missed a little. This is a special time when you, the nurse and your wife are all in this little luxury apartment on day 1 of what will hopefully be another 9 weeks at the least.

Hopefully they'll listen and we'll have better news for you later in the day or tomorrow (Wednesday)

Update...9:16 AM

30 minute bolus of Mag Sulfate went in well, Mindy's a little hot and flushed from it but the contractions have spaced out a bit more. Mindy is on COMPLETE bed rest now with the bed pan and with the 2mg Mag Sulfate hopefully things will continue to calm down and we'll see a lot less contractions over the next little while. She'll start answering and returning calls soon.
