Helping the nurses...or getting in their way, not sure which it is...

It is hard to keep everyone updated as things with the girls change sometimes rather frequently.  We will try to update often but probably won't be daily, though we are there twice a day...

Rianne
Friday night had a new apnic episode so her CPAP was turned up.  She had a few again during the day on Saturday and are hoping that she doesn't have any more.  We aren't allowed to kangaroo her if she has multiple episodes and don't want her to be put back on the vent.

Luke......Breathe Heavy...Breathe Heavy...I am your Father (Star Wars...)

Can't wait till I go Wireless!

Brielle
She was taken off the CPAP machine Saturday morning and seems to be doing well!  Her bilirubin is elevated again so her she is back under the lights.

Oh...that tickles...stop...no..ok...go...no stop...

I know it looks like I've got a toothpick hanging out of my mouth but I have no teeth...
Teagan

She continues to do well on the high vent and the blood transfusion elevated her hematocrit back to the normal range.

Tony taking Teagan's temperature under the armpit...so glad I didn't have to take it the other way...

Mindy learning to take the temperatures too.

Helping with assessments

Tony and I can now help with the girls assessments which includes diaper change, temp check, and moving their sensors from one extremity to another. The kids are passing Meconium...

From Wikipedia - Meconium is the earliest stools of an infant. Unlike later feces, meconium is composed of materials ingested during the time the infant spends in the uterus: intestinal epithelial cells, lanugo, mucus, amniotic fluid, bile, and water. Meconium is almost sterile,[1] unlike later feces, is viscous and sticky like tar, and has no odor. It should be completely passed by the end of the first few days of life, with the stools progressing toward yellow (digested milk). The term Meconium derives from meconium-arion, meaning "opium-like", in reference either to its tarry appearance or to Aristotle's belief that it induces sleep in the fetus.[2] A symptom of both Hirschsprung's disease and cystic fibrosis is the failure to pass meconium.

Our girls are having nooooooo problem passing extra meconium...goodness gracious...my first daddy-daughter diaper change ended with a big present!

Tony and I helped with Brielle and Teagan on Saturday afternoon.  They both provided us with poopy (meconium) diapers making our first diaper change even more challenging.

My legs aren't strong enough to stand up for a long time so I'm only able to help with one baby and that is even a challenge.  Hopefully I get strong soon and I can do all three.

  2. Hi Mindy, I heard through the grapevine that you were having triplets and came across your blog. Congratulations on the birth of your daughters!! What a miracle! Reading your stories about bedrest, a c-section, and the NICU has brought back lots of memories for me. My husband and I had twin boys 2 years ago. They were 8 weeks early and we spent a few months at Blank in the NICU...along with two surgeries and lots of fun Kangarooing. You'll be so glad that you have this 'journal' to remember your emotions, thoughts, and all of the little details. Please feel free to call me if you need anything or have any questions at all. Praying for your little angels! Sally Haack.
