Oxygen Support
They are trying to wean the girls off their O2 in hopes of not having to send them home on oxygen. So far they are still on between 28-40% with the goal being 21%.
These ladies need to come back home! They are not 21 weeks, much less 21 years! |
They have their first room air challenge this weekend. They take the girls off oxygen and see how long they can stay above 80% oxygen saturation. The doctor today said he was pretty sure they would fail but still needed to test them.

Thanks for the tip, Homer. |
Immunizations
Even though they are preemies they stick to the same immunization schedule as term babies. The girls will get three immunizations each on Saturday.
It's a little hard to read but it says, "Why didn't you say so in the first place? We could have used this new all-in-one vaccination rather than the traditional multiple injections. Oh, well, we'll do it this way next year...how about that? |
Bottles
The girls are eating on average every other feeding by bottle. The goal is for them to work up to eating all meals by bottle. In order to attempt bottle feeding they have to be awake and suck on their pacifier or fingers. They still like to stop breathing and/or drop their heart rate when they eat which can be pretty scary.

Not sure who looks more confused, me or Teagan? |
I think she's actually blowing out... |
Family
We have now been in the NICU and hospital long enough for everyone to know who we are. Nurses that have had the girls a lot or even a little remember who we are and stop in to check on the girls. The girls at the front desk know our names and ask how our day is going. The people in the cafeteria love getting daily updates on the girls. One lady told me I looked really tired today and should go home and take a nap. A chef in the cafeteria told me one day that it's not fun to be here this long but to consider everyone family while we are here. This hasn't been a fun journey, but having familiar friendly faces makes things more bearable.

Rianne, pondering life...and she would be pondering stars in the ceiling, but she can only see like a foot away. |
Ri, wondering what that shadow is all about...parent looming, hovering, trying to talk to her.... |
Her favorite position...prayer...or cell phone? |
Actually, she's praying for an increase in her Hemoglobin...she's been a bit anemic and before, a transfusion was the Red Bull we used, now, she has to make it on her own... |
Teagan really ... pushes ... when she needs to... |
Then she settles herself down...with a settle...settle hand motion... |
Brielle is also a ... pusher ... |
Brielle lets mom and dad know what she wants ... food and a binkie... |
And keeps one eye open to make sure no one takes it away! |
Stats
